Abstract

Datura is a well-known medicinal plant. Since its seeds are highly toxic, Ayurveda advocates Shodhana (purification procedures) before using it as a safe therapeutic drug. Present study was undertaken on the seeds of Datura innoxia Mill. to find out the effect of Shodhana on phytochemical composition in the seeds of Datura.. The results obtained indicated that Shodhana. lowered the amounts of scopolamine and hyosciamine in the seeds.
