Ichthyofauna of Kararia lake, Motihari, Bihar

Abstract

Fishes are useful indicators of aquatic ecosystem. During present investigation ichthyofaunal diversity of Kararia Lake, Motihari, Bihar Cantonment area was studied. Twenty-seven fish species, belonging to 8 orders, 13 families, and 19 genera have been recorded. Order Cypriniformes was found to be dominant with 10 species, followed by Siluriformes with 06 species, Perciformes with 04 species, Channiformes and Clupeiformes with 2, 2 species, Mastacembeliformes, Beloniformes and Symbranchiformes with 1 species each.
