Ethnomedicinal plants used by Deori tribe of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts (Assam), India

Abstract

Deori tribe is one of the ethnic groups of Assam. This tribe refers to themselves as “Jimochayan, “ meaning “Children of the Sun”. The people of Deori tribe served as priests in temples. The present paper gives an account of various plants being used by them for the treatment of different ailments. This study was undertaken from March 2023 to April 2024. The primary data was collected through interviews, personal observation, and questionnaires. All plant species were identified and documented using standard procedures. Ethnomedicinal uses of them were determined by computing the reports for each species and the Informant Consensus Factor. Information about 46 plant species along with their botanical name, vernacular name, family, parts used, forms of medicine, and ailments treated has been summarized.
