Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi are the most common fungal endophytic symbionts associated with plant roots. Present study was undertaken to find out the presence of arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) in the rhizosphere soils of five vegetable crops viz. Solanum lycopersicum, Raphanus sativus, Brassica oleracea var. botrytis, Capsicum frutescens and Brassica oleracea which are collected from Kamrup district, Assam. Isolation and characterization of VAM fungi from them revealed that the composition of the mycorrhizal fungi on the roots varied with AM species and type of vegetable, nature of the soil climate and the management practices used. A good number of AM species were isolated from the selected vegetables which are identified as Glomus, Gigaspora and Scutellospra. Glomussp was found to be dominant in all the selected vegetables.
