Black Banded Disease of Mango: A Review

Abstract

Black banded disease of mango is caused by Peziotrichum corticolum (Massee) Subramanian, which may result into from 30% to 100% yield loss. Trees affected by Black banded disease possess black patches on their main trunk, branches, and leaves leading to dryness of the plant leading into death. When cultured on PDA the pathogen develop black coloured colonies. The fungal mycelium is dark brown, abundantly branched, septate, 3-6 µ, grouped vertically, erect, straight, or bent, and is converged above. The symptomatology, host range, morphology, cultural characteristics, and management strategies for the pathogen has been summarized in this communication
