Dioscorea esculenta (Lour.) Burkill, a tuberous medicinal plant, possesses significant therapeutic potential. Preliminary analysis has identified various bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and phenolics. These compounds are primarily responsible for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Analysis of methanolic extract of the tubers from this plant using High Resolution- Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (HR-LCMS) revealed presence of bioactive compounds such as Hydroxytyrosol 1-O-glucoside, N(alpha)-Benzyloxycarbonyl-L leucine, Ethyl 3 (N butylacetamido) propionate, Fluvoxamine, Talbutal, Prilocaine, Glutethimide, Nitrovin, Rabeprazole, Phenylbutazone, 5-Hydroxypropafenone, 1-Dehydro[6]-gingerdione, Jervine, Phytosphingosine, (6S)-dehydrovomifoliol, Cassine, Smilagenone, Glabrin C, which are supposed to have pharmacological and industrial applications.
