Investigations on Roots of Clerodendrum Serratum (L.) Moon

Present paper deals with ethno-medicinal and pharmacognostical studies on roots of Clerodendrum serratum (L.) Moon. The roots are used for the treatment of snake bite, rheumatic pains, skin diseases and asthma and bronchitis. Phytochemical tests of the roots revealed presence of phenols, flavones, tannins, coumarins, alkaloids reducing sugars, xanthoproteins and glycosides. In addition, ash value, moisture content, dry matter, fluorescence analysis and phytochemical data, presented in this communication, will be helpful for the standardization and quality control of this drug.
