Effect of Trichoderma against seed borne fungi of soybean (Glycine max)

Abstract

Soybean is vulnerable to several pathogenic fungi, which may result in failure of the crop. As various fungicides may impose negative environmental consequences, the present investigation was undertaken to explore the use of antagonists against dominant seed-borne pathogenic fungi. Agar plate and conventional blotter paper procedures were used to extract pathogenic fungus from certain soybean seeds. For this purpose, Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum were employed against the dominant pathogens like Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium oxysporum. Trichoderma sp. controlled the growth of these dominant pathogenic fungi.
