Abstract

Antibacterial activities of ethanol extracts of Calocybe indica, Volvariella volvacea, Termitomyces heimii, Agaricus campestris, Chlorophyllum molybdites, Schizophyllum commune, Leucocoprinus cretaceus, Collybiopsis menehune and Gymnopus menehune were investigated by diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Ethanol extracts (10 and 25 %) of Volvariella volvacea, Chlorophyllum molybdites, Volvariella volvacea and Leucocoprinus cretaceus exhibited maximum growth inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus. Agaricus campestris showed highest antibacterial activity against S. aureus. Furthermore, the 10% ethanolic extract of Gymnopus menehune and the 100% ethanolic extract of Schizophyllum commune were found to be effective in inhibiting the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae.
