Crotalaria westernyana has been described and illustrated as a new species from western ghats of Maharashtra, India. It closely resembles with the species of section Calycinae Wight & Arnott, based on its affinities with C. mysorensis Roth but differs in morphological characters : leave sessile, exstipulate, persistent bract, inflorescence 2–5 flowers, standard petal ovate-orbicular, pods 1–2 cm long, enclosed, stalk 0.5–0.8 cm long, beak 1.4–1.7 cm, 4 –10 seeded, seed colour brown grey.
