Medicinal and culinary plants are rich in bioactive compounds including flavonoids and phenols, which have antioxidant effects in maintaining human health. Present study was undertaken to compare antioxidant activities of Cascabela thevetia with Chenopodium album using aqueous and ethanol extracts. The antioxidant activity was tested DPPH radical scavenging test, as well as total phenolic and vitamin C contents. using. Alcoholic extract of both plants showed significantly higher % DPPH free radical scavenging activity compared to aqueous extraction (< 71 %) at 5 mg/ml. Aqueous extract of Chenopodium album at all concentrations (0.5 to 10 mg/ml) showed greater total phenolic content (ranging from 27 to 322 μg/ml) compared to alcoholic extract (ranging from 12 to 245 μg/ml). While Aqueous extract of Cascabela thevetia showed lower total phenolic content (ranging from19to 380 μg/ml) as compared to alcoholic extract (ranging from 24 to 389 μg/ml) at all concentrations, which were statistically insignificant. The ethanol extract of Cascabela thevetia had higher amount of vitamin C, (264.7 ± 0.40 μg/ml at 10 mg/ml.) Chenopodium album and Cascabela thevetia were sustainable sources of antioxidants.
