Abstract

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are anticancer agents. Its biological production has recently attracted attention as an eco-friendly alternative, as compared to conventional chemical synthesis methods. A review regarding anticancer efficacy of AgNPs derived from several biological sources has been presented. Bio-molecules such as curcumin, berberine, Acacia pod extract, edible mushroom extract, pineapple peel extract, Nigella sativa seed extract, C. fragrans, and Butea monosperma extracts were used for their synthesis. Such AgNPs samples demonstrate cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines, including MCF-7, A549, HepG2, HCT-116, HT-29, and MDA-MB-231. Biogenic nano-composites were found to be superior against those synthesized using conventional chemical methods.
