Functional and Enzymatic Characteristics of Carbendazim-resistant Isolates of Macrophomina Phaseolina

Abstract

Macrophomina phaseolina is responsible for charcoal rot in more than 500 plant species. Its ability to persist as microsclerotia coupled with emergence of fungicide-resistance make its management increasingly challenging. Present study investigates the physiological traits, growth responses, and enzymatic behaviour of a carbendazim-resistant isolate of M. phaseolina. Resistant isolates exhibited enhanced adaptability, superior utilization of carbon and nitrogen sources, and increased production of hydrolytic enzymes as compared with sensitive isolates.
