Abstract

Salacia chinensis L,. commonly known as Saptarangi, is a medicinal plant used in the treatment of diabetes and obesity. Its medicinal properties are due to the secondary metabolites present in it, out of which mangiferin is used as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic drug. In order to understand the role of an endophyte, Colletotrichum gigasporum in the synthesis of mangiferin by Salacia chinesis L. present investigation was undertaken. The results obtained indicated that there was no significant different between the mangiferin content of treated and untreated plant of Salacia chinensis L. with Colletotrichum gigasporum.
