Effect of traditional ayurvedic purification technique called as Shodhana, on detoxification of the seeds from medicinal plant Jatropha curcas L. was studied during present investigation. The main objective was to study the impact of Shodhana on phytochemical profile of the seeds with an emphasis on decrease in harmful drugs. For this purpose the seeds were subjected to Shodhana process using cow urine and milk. Comparative analysis of the unprocessed (Ashodhita) and processed (Shodhita) seeds through HRLC-MS analysis revealed significant changes due to Shodhana. Several prominent peaks in the treated seeds decreased, indicating elimination or modification of certain phytochemicals. It was thought that these chemical changes.. lowers alkaloids content in Jatropha curcas L. seeds, which may reduce their toxicity, thus enhancing security and effectiveness as a medicine.
