Effect of Homeopathic Medicine on Development and Silk Production by Silkworm, Bombyx Mori L.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effects of enriching mulberry leaves with selected homeopathic formulations on the larval development, cocoon traits, and silk filament parameters of Bombyx mori. The experiment was carried out at a sericulture unit in Nashik from December 2025 to January 2026. Silkworm larvae (Bombyx mori L.) were reared under controlled conditions, 24-29° C temperature and 75-80 % relative humidity. Three homeopathic preparations Calcarea phosphorica, Silicea and Tuberculinum bovinum were administered to the mulberry leaves, along with an untreated control group .Each treatment was replicated three times. Larval weights were recorded at all instar stages. Cocoon and silk filament traits were evaluated. .Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA followed by Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT). Larval growth showed notable improvement, particularly in later instars. The fifth instar larval weight was significantly higher in treated groups (Calcarea phosphorica: 32.806±0.126 g;Silicea 32.930 ±0.285 g; and Tuberculinum bovinum 34.610±0.252g) compared to the control (27.110±2.217g;P=0.007). Similarly ,third instar weights were significantly greater in treatments ( 5.626-5.826 g) than in the control (3.706±0.458 g;P=0.004).. Cocoon traits ,including cocoon weight (19.900±1.217 to 20.826±0.351 g) and shell ratio ( 23.262±0.969 to 26.055±2.322%),which did not differ significantly (P>0.05).In contrast , characteristics of silk filament significantly improved, Tuberculinum bovinum produced the highest filament length (1494±37.469m),filament weight (0.473±0.038g),and number of reeling revolutions (1328.00±33.306) as compared to the control (891.75±11,405m,0.336±0.008 g and 792.66v10.137, respectively;P≤0.01).Denier values were significantly lower in treated groups (2.843-3.067) than in the control (3.396±0.049;P=0.021), indicating that the finer silk.Mulberry leaves treated with homeopathic drugs enhanced larval growth and silk filament quality..Among the treatments ,Tuberculinum bovinum proved to be most effective ..
