Degradation of copper sulphate by actinomycetes

Abstract

Three hundred ninety nine actinomycetes were isolated. 124 from DSS (Deep Saline Soil)and 195 from PSS (Partial SalineSoil) of sangli district, Maharashtra. Twelve genera were prominent in the two soils. These included Streptomyces, Sreptoverticillium, Streptosporangium, Micromonaspora, Nocordiopsis, Nocardia, Nocardioides, Thermoactinomycetes, Dactylosporangium, Actinoplanes, Thermomonospora and Aetinopolyspora. In addition Saccharopolyspora was also observed in PSS (Partial Saline Soil). Streptomyces was mostcommon in both soil types. Seventeen actinomycetal isolates were able to show growth in presence of copper sulphate, out of which only 8 isolates were able to degrade copper sulphate at 15% salt concentration.
