Fifteen plant species belong to algae, pteridophytes and angiosperms were screened for urease activity. Among these, twelve members were found to produce urease in detectable amount. Urease activity varied from 114.18–1522.2 μmole of ammonia released/gm of tissue. Maximum activity was recorded in Glycine max. L. while minimum in Glechenia sp.
