Abstract

Sugarcane tops were treated with compost and buried in soil to identify the role of bacteria in degradation of lignocellulose. The compost treated samples showed increased degradation of lignocellulose. Colony and other characteristics of isolated organisms were found to be identical with Pseudomonas fluorescence. Thus Pseudomonas fluorescence was found to be useful in degradation of sugarcane tops. This can be a remedy for in situ disposal of sugarcane tops.
