Impact of front line demonstration on Production Technology-I. Bittergourd

The Front Line Demonstration on Production Technology of Bittergourd var. Phule Green Gold was conducted for five years (2004–05 to 2008–09) on farmers field in four villages in of Dhule district in kharif season. The average yield performance of demonstrated Bittergourd ranged from 148 to 186 q/ha. There was 12.97% increase in the yield over local crop during all the five years. The farmers incurred higher returns through demonstrations with a cost benefit ratio of 6.21 as against traditional practice (3.80). Use of variety, cultivation practices, proper post harvest management and plant protection measures resulted in higher productivity of Bittergourd.
