The effect of distillery effluent from sugar industries on organic constituents and enzyme Nitrate reductase (NR) activity in Chenopodium album L. was studied. Higher concentration of distillery effluent was harmful for overall growth of C. album. Photosynthetic pigments increased at lower concentration and then declined with the increase in concentration. Total polyphenol contents declined with increasing concentration of distillery effluent. Carbohydrate contents decreased at higher concentration. Nitrate reductase activity decreased with increasing concentration of distillery effluent.
