Algal Community at Hartala Lake As an Indicator of Organic Pollution

Ecological investgation on the Hartala lake near Bhusawal (M.S) was carred out. Algal samples were collected from three different sites of the lake during October,1998 to September, 2000. Among the algal groups, blue green algae were found to be dominant over green algae, diatoms, desmids and the euglenoids. Among blue green algae,species of Microsystis and Oscillatoria were found to be dominant. Species of Scenedesmus, Spirogyra, Navicula, Cosmarium, Closterium, Euglena and Phacus were dominant. The saprobity index as well as the compound quotient value (CQ) indicated that the lake water was organically polluted.
