With increasing salinity, phosphorus content increased in different plant parts. Due to salinity more phosphorus got accumulated in the leaf tissue followed by that in stem and root. Salt stress caused stimulation of the activities of acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase and alkaline inorganic pyrophosphatase. The activity of enzyme ATPase was inhibited due to salt stress. These findings clearly indicate that salinity not only caused an increase in the P5+ status of the horsegram stem and leaves, but also brought about marked changes in activities of various phosphatases.
