Mycoflora associated with particle boards

The investigation was undertaken to survey the mycoflora inhabiting particle boards from a densely populated urban area of India. The samples were collected from particle boards situated 5–6 m above ground level, serving as false ceiling of a public hall and top cover of an electrical installation respectively. A total of 19 fungal species belonging to 8 genera, inclusive of some known thermotolerant and thermophilic forms, were encountered during the study. Prominent among the isolated fungal flora were the cellulolytic genera Aspergillus and Chaetomium. The study of fungal organisms isolated during the investigation also revealed most of the species to be potential health hazards.
