Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from wound sample and cultured to extract pyocyanin (5-Methylphenazin-I-one). Capability of P. aeruginosa in producing phenazine pigment, as well as the bactericidal effect of pyocyanin on wound micro inhabitants was evaluated. Antibacterial effect was maximum for Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus sp. except for Staphylococcus aureus showing minimum inhibition.
