Abstract

The people living in Himalayan region and the tribal areas have developed indigenous techniques and acquired knowledge using various plants. Nature has bestowed the Himalayas with vast, varied and many endemic plant species. Different traditions, beliefs, needs and cultures of the various people and the diversity of flora in this region contribute to plant folklore. A large number of folk-medicines still remain endemic to certain regions or people in the region. Keeping this in view, the present study has been undertaken to document indigenous knowledge pertaining to different plants in the Darlaghat wildlife sanctuary, situated in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. A total of 65 plant species, of ethno-botanical importance were found in this region. Some of the important plants and their uses have been discussed.
