Abstract

A dye discolouring bacterium was isolated from soil samples at Beed and identified as Bacillus sp. F 4 on the basis of morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics. The bacterium efficiently decolourised Reactive Blue 59 up to the concentration of 1 g/l under static condition. Maximum de-colourization (93.15 %) of Reactive Blue 59 was reported for the concentration of 600 mg/l within 24 hours at pH 7.0 and temperature 37°C. Bacillus sp F 4 could thus be effective for use in textile industry effluent treatment.
