Abstract

The benthic macroinvertebrates of Phutala lake, Nagpur (M. S.) were represented by Nematoda, Oligochaeta, Insecta and Gastropoda. Nematodes are represented by Rhabditis sp., Oligochaetes by Nais communis, Dero pristina, Chaetogaster sp., Aelosoma sp., Branchiura sowerbyi, Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri and Stylaria sp. while gastropods by Lymnaea luteola and Vivipera bengalensis. Presence of tubificids (Tubifex sp. and Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri) in the lake sediments throughout the year indicated presence of organic matter in the lake.
