Abstract

Histochemical studies on germinating pollen grains of Datura metal and Cleome viscosa revealed sufficiency of biochemical substances in pollen grains, which further metabolize into various biochemical compounds viz. Polysaccharides, Cellulose, Starch, Pectic substances, Proteins, Lipids, Ascorbic acid, DNA and RNA. The pollen tube possesses these metabolites at particular stage of pollen germination.
