Propagation of Adansonia Digitata L.

Adansonia digitata L. a native of tropical Africa belongs to family Bombacaceae. It is rare in deciduous forest of Maharashtra. Its bark, leaves and fruit pulp are used as medicine. The Seeds of this plant were given scarification treatments like, mechanical, acid, alkali, hot water, thiourea, cow dung and presoaking. It was observed that, the highest percentage of seed germination was recorded with hot water (50⁰C-30 min.) followed by conc. H₂SO₄ (10 min.). Stem cuttings were also treated with Indole acetic acid and gibberellic acid. The highest sprouting of stem cuttings was recorded in Indole acetic acid treatment (500ppm for 6 hrs.).
