Fifteen layer farms in Marathwada Region of Parabhani, Nanded and Aurangabad districts in Maharashtra were selected and effect of sanitary measures on performance of layer chickens i.e. production of layer birds was studied on the basis of spot observation as well as questionnaire. All farms were categorized under excellent, optimurn and poor sanitation farms on the basis of sanitary measures adopted by farmers. It was evident that the sanitary measures had direct effect on the performance of birds. The mortality rate was highest in poor sanitation layer farms followed by optimum and excellent sanitation layer farms. The weight gain per bird at 45 days of age was highest in excellent sanitary measures farms followed by optimum and poor sanitation farms.
