Abstract

An attempt has been made to study the influence of diet on occurrence of peptic ulcer. An experimental group of 100 diagnosed and proven peptic ulcer cases were selected from OPD, SKIMS. Another 100 subjects without any history of peptic ulcer formed control group. It is concluded that females were mostly affected with peptic ulcer. Prevalence of peptic ulcer was high in the age group of 40–45 years. Highest incidence of disease was seen among married individuals. The respondents used to take spicy foods while rice was their staple food. Salttea was consumed by the patients twice a day and the diet was deficient in fiber and other nutrients.
