Abstract

Attempt has been made to study changes in the contents of nitrate, nitrite and ammonia during leaf senescence in three cultivars of mulberry (Morus alba Linn) viz. M5, V1 and S36. The leaf senescence was accompanied with decline in nitrate content while nitrite content increased. The level of ammonia elevated in senescent leaves of all the three cultivars. Presence of nitrate, nitrite or ammonia in leaves may affect silkworms, if old leaves of mulberry are fed to them.
