Response of Diazotrops and Phosphate Solublizers on Growth and Yield of Ashwagandha

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of inoculation of Azotobacter chroococcum, phosphate solublizing isolates (Bacillus megaterium and B. polumyza) on growth and yield of Ashwagandha. Combined inoculation of Azotobacter and phosphate solublizing isolates recorded maximum plant height, number of branches per plant, dry weight per plant and root yield. Phosphate solubilization ranged from 28 – 32% and from 54 – 61% with rock phosphate and tri-calcium phosphate respectively. Thus application of biofertilizers increased growth, nutrient uptake and yield of Ashwaghanda.
