Abstract

Seven hybrids and their parental lines, Gossypium hirsutum L. and G. arboreum L. were subjected to seed protein electrophoresis characterization employing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Relative Interspecific similarities of protein patterns were estimated and cluster analysis was performed. Total 178 bands were observed with Rm values ranging from 0.02 to 0.97. Minimum 7 and maximum 11 bands were observed and 87% similarity index was observed between cotton hybrids and their parental lines. Two broad clusters were obtained in the dendrogram at genetic similarity of 68%; about seven genotypes were present in one cluster of Gossypium arboreum L. and 12 genotypes of G. hirsutum L. in another cluster.
