Round the year management techniques for the control of lantana under mid hill sub humid zone of Himachal Pradesh*

A field experiment was conducted during 2004–05 to 2005–06 at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh to study techniques for the control of Lantana (Lantana camara (L.)var. Aculeata). Cutting of Lantana bushes in September resulted in lowest shoot height, number of shoots per plant, number of leaves per plant and dry biomass with highest control efficiency. Spray of glyphosate @ 1.5%, one month after cutting, proved to be most effective in reducing Lantana growth. Although at all the times of cutting and spray of glyphosate 1.5% was effective in controlling Lantana, but, in July and September cuttings when the spray was done at one month after cutting, even 0.5% and 1.0% doses of glyphosate were as effective as 1.5% in controlling Lantana. Cutting in the month of March and application of glyphosate @ 1.0% on regenerated foliage, one month after cutting, was also found effective.
