The F2 population comprising 151 progenies,developed by crossing Gossypium hirsutum L. var. KC 3 and Gossypium barbadense L. var. Suvin, was used to assess genetic variation, heritability and correlation among fibre quality traits. All fibre characters showed significant differences among the F2 progenies,and transgressive segregation of these traits resulted in wide variation among the F2 progenies. High heritability was observed for 2.5 per cent span length,bundle strength, micronaire and uniformity ratio. Thus these traits were controlled by additive gene action and selection for these traits could be effective for desired genetic improvement. The correlation studies among fibre quality traits revealed positive significant association between 2.5 per cent span length and bundle strength; uniformity ratio and bundle strength, micronaire and elongation percentage, while negative correlation between uniformity ratio with 2.5 per cent span length.
