Abstract

Two samples comprising of 22 males and 27 females within the age group of 18 to 25 were evaluated for understanding relationship between obesity and cardiorespiratory fitness. The obesity of the candidates was expressed in terms of BMI (body mass index), while VO2max (maximum oxygen consumption) was calculated as a measure of physical fitness. Significant negative correlation was observed in males (r= -0.62964) and females (r= -0.54600) between BMI and VO2max. This indicated that with increase in BMI, VO2 max decreased. Thus obesity inversely affects cardiorespiratory fitness of a person.
