Fish diversity of lentic freshwater body, Hosur tank of Bhadravathi taluk, Karnataka was studied. Total 30 fish species belonging to 6 orders and 12 families were reported. Family Cyprinidae was found to be dominant with 15 species, followed by Bagridae and Channidae with 3 species each, and Aplocheilidae, Mastacembelidae, Notopteridae, Heteropneustidae, Clarridae, Poecillidae, Ambassidae, Cichlidae and Siluridae representing single each. As far as conservation status is concerned (IUCN, 1994), 10 fish species are categorized into LR-nt (Lower risk near threatened), 14 Data deficient, 4 Vulnerable, 1 Endangered and 1 as LR-lc (Lower risk least concern) respectively. The present work is useful for planning of fisheries development.
