Euglenoids from tapi river of Jalgaon district (Maharashtra)

Abstract

Total 38 taxa of euglenoids belonging to 13 genera namely Euglena(5), Phacus(6), Lepocinclis(5), Strombomonas(5), Trachelomonas(5), Heteronema(3), Astasia(2), Petalomonas(2), Peranema(1), Rhabdoderma(1), Entosiphon (1), Anisonema(1) and Gyropaigne(1) have been identified and described with habitats and periodicity. Majority of the species were collected during late rainy season,particurly in winter and summer. The pH at collection spots ranged from 6.5 to 8.0 in monsoon and 7.7 to 9.1 in cold and summer seasons. Euglena gracilis, f.hiemalis, Phacus birgei, Strombomonas rotunda, S.ovalis, Astasia comma, Peranemacuneatum, Heteronemaacutissimum and Gyropaigne spirale are additions to the Indian euglenoids.
