To make paddy transplanting mechanized in hills, 65-rows manual paddy transplanter was evaluated at university and farmers' field in 2002–04 and performance was compared with tradional methods. The effective capacity of the transplanter was observed 0.03 ha/h. the use of transplanter results in 2–3 times saving in labour and 54–73% cost of operation over traditional methods. Statistical analysis showed significantly 30–35% higher grain yield in transplanter over broadcasting methods.
