Abstract

In the present study, an attempt has been made to scientifically analyze rainfall and runoff time series (1971–97) collected from Junagarh Krishi Vishwa Vidhyalaya watershed (Rajkot) with relevant statistical tools. A situation specific computer programme incorporating hydraulic design and hydrological criteria, set of different condition of runoff coefficient, CN =88 for runoff generation and USDA, SCS, CN method have been considered to design parameters for rain water harvesting structures. The computer programme is used separately for normal rain and extreme rain events (based on 1971–97 data) and for dataset of each year. The results are statistically analyzed and design parameters for the study region are suggested. The computer program is applied to an existing irrigation tank ‘B’ with 4 ha catchment and results of design features (old and new) are compared.
