Abstract

Experiments are being conducted by All India Coordinated Research Project System to assess the performance of different groups of rice varieties based crop sequences. The experiment was laid out in group balanced block design. In order to examine the production potential and economics of groups and crop sequences with in these groups, this study is undertaken using the data for the years 2000–01 and 2001–02 of R.S. Pura (J & K) centre, where rice4 - wheat is a prevalent crop sequences. Process of identification of need based crop sequences is being continuing by diversifying or intensifying the prevalent cropping system through alternate crops or varieties of diverse nature keeping in mind that the substitution may be a good alternative to break the monotony of traditional system and help to sustain the productivity and ultimately economic returns. Results reveal that Group B with rice variety PC. 19 gave the maximums returns is individual year. Out of the four sequences within this group highest returns (Rs. 116549) are observed from rice-peas-maize (Cob) sequence. The order of performance of groups in terms of monetary return is Group B > Group D > Group A > Group C.
