Abstract

Results revealed that sub surface drainage increaase in crop productivity, cropping intensity and other benefits due to land drainage, guidelines to design subsurface drainage system have been included in this paper. Guidelines on drainage coefficient, drain depth, drain spacing, need for envelope and construction technique have been included. Based on experiences on monitoring/evaluation of drainage project, guidelines on system evaluation have also been formulated and included. If these guidelines areapplied in the design keeping in view the location specific situations, one would be able to design an effective drainage system. The cost of preparing the design would be less upon application of these guidelines. It is believed that an effective monitoring and evalution programme could be formulated with the guidelines listed on this subject.
