Abstract

With a view to producing quality seed cane, an experiment was conducted at the farm of Sugarcane Research Institute, Shahjahanpur using two sugarcane varieties cose 98231 andcose 97264. The experiment was planted under three row specings S1 (90cm), S2 (90:30: 90 cm) and S3 (120:120 cm). The spacing S2 showed average germination, higher number of tilleres and millable canes than S1 and S3 treatments. Consequently the cane yield was also higher in S2 than in S1 and S3 treatments. As far as the number of buds per hectare was concerned, it was maximum under S2 spacing possibly due to increased cane height.
