Metertological drought analysis over Kanpur region based on rainfall data

Abstract

Daily rainfall data for the period of 38 years (1967–2004) were analysed to workput the weekly, monthly, seasonal and yearly drought over Kanpur region. The observed frequency of drought was maximum (22 times) in 39th Standard Meteorogical Week (SMW) during 1968–2004. The highest frequency of drought 23 times occured in February, March and November months whereas 3 severe drought years were experienced during 38 years. The severe drought year found in 1974, 1979 and 1987 when total annual rainfall was 42.9, 50.3 and 48.7 percent respectively.
