Abstract

The Study revealed that production of soybean has increased largely due to increase in area under soybean across the district of the Malwa plateau region. The highest expansion of area indicated the suitability of adopting this crop profitably. The growth performance varied from district to district. This has affected the overall state performance depending upon the weightage of district in respect of production of soybean. Instability in total production was more pronounced than that in are area and yield across the districts in pre and post economic reform period. Thus, looking at pas performance, the compound growth rate for soybean has been lower than the one needed during the next plan. Since the yield fronties are relatively limited, meeting the future demand has to be mainly through crop productivity enhancement, using technological changes and their adoption by farmers, Needless to mention, such productivity enhancement have to be eco-friendly and cost effectives.
