Twenty two frieswal heifers having mean body weight more than 300 kg and age more than 20 months were divided into two groups. In the first group 12 heifers were fed the combined preparation Levonorgesterl 1.2 mg combined with ethinyloestradiol 024 mg per animal per day) for 6 days, 10 heifers of same age group were also kept as controls. Oestrus was observed in morning and evening with the help of a teaser bull. It was observed that 8 out of 12 (66%1/2 heifers exhibited oestrus after 20.83 + 1.86 days, as compared to control group when only 2 heifers (20%) exhibited oestrus after 47.5+4.48 days. Based on these results subsequent lInd trials were conducted in 7 and 10 anoestrus heifers of similer age group (23.6+2.4 & 28.2+2.32 months) after feeding them this preparatin along with mineral mixture @ 40g/day for 10 day. These animal were also maintained under standard management by 5 (71.4%) heifers after 21.0 and 14.71+4.99 days in IInd and IIIrd trial respectively. The blood serum taken before the start of treratment in the third trial revealed normal range of copper and zinc in these animals. The statistical analyses (=0.054) revealed that there was on significant difference in the exhibition of oestrus between the three trials. This indicates that feeding of combined perparation of progesterone and oestrogen can be used as most economical, convenient and effective method to over come the problem of anoestrus in frieswal heifers.
