Abstract

A least squares model, incorporating 12 periods (3 years each), 12 months and AFC as co-variable was fitted for all the traits except for AFC (Set-I). The monthly indices were estimated and the monthly/seasonal and cyclical components of these traits were isolated by time series analysis of data. The monthly indices, periods and AFC as co variable were included in least squares model (Set-II). Least squares model comprising months, exact peiords (5–7 years for various triats) and AFC as co. variable comprised Set-III and Set-IV incorporated data adjusted by AFC, exact periods (5–7 years) and by monthly indices derived from time series analysis. The data were adjusted for significant non-genetic factors for estimation of heritability from four sets. The estimation of heritability of FLTMY was higher from the time series analysis. Heritability of AFC, FL305DMY and FLL were observed to be higher from least squares analysis. However, It was concluded that time series adjustments were not more effective to adjust the data in Murrah buffaloes.
