Abstract

Every year there is 7–25 percent damage by pest in Uttar Pradesh. The average consumption of insecticides is 279.60 gm/hec. ln a survey conducted on 1050 progressive farmers of 14 districts of Eastern U.P., it was revealed that majority of farmers did not know about Bio-agents and Biopesticides used in insect pest management. The name of bio-agents and bio-pesticides namely Trichoderma, Trichogramma, NPV, Beauverllt basslana (B.b), Bacillus thurlnglences (B.t), Pheromone Trap, and Neem-based pesticides was heard by only 0.28–5.04 per cent farmers. None of the farmers of Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Sultanpur, Balrampur, Siddharth Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Sant Kabir Nager, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur and Deoria had not heard of Pheromones trap. Only 0.47 to 8.1 percent farmers knew about use of blo-agents and bio-pesticides while 0–5.2 per cent farmers adopted It. In survey, farmers informed that at Govt. Plant Protection Units and at private seller ollly Trichoderma and Neern-Based Blo-agents Bio-pesticides are available at till1es. This needs appropriate intervention programme.
